Welcome to 5th Grade at Archway Chandler!
Welcome students and parents to our class blog! Here you will find important information that will help to keep you informed as the year progresses. Everything from newsletters, and classroom policies, to a calendar of events and links to volunteer sign-up can be accessed through the blog. Homework will not be posted here, as it is the student’s responsibility to record his or her assignments in the classroom. Have fun perusing the site and please feel free to contact me with any questions. Thank you!

Dear Parents and Students,
I know that the students are eagerly counting the days until summer sun, fun and freedom begin. In our last two weeks we will continue to put in the hard work to make the most of our academic time together. We’ll finish our history curriculum with a focus on Westward Expansion After The Civil War, and in science the students will work on a scientist biography project. We’ll continue to work through grammar (verbs and affixes), spelling and vocabulary and finish our reading of Little Women.
Important upcoming dates for fifth grade:
* 5/21 Fifth Grade Commencement at 1:50pm in the CPA gymnasium
* 5/22-5/25 Early Dismissal Days
* 5/25 Last day of school!
Thank you for the wonderful 38 weeks we’ve shared so far, I look forward to number 39 and 40!!!

2/6-2/10 MEDIEVAL FAIRE VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!!!
Dear parents,
As you may be well aware, the Second Annual Medieval Faire is coming up in only two short weeks! The event will be held on Saturday February 18th on the Archway/CPA field. We NEED your help! We’ll need volunteers to help with everything from gathering supplies for our booth, to setting up and tearing down, to running our booth as well as a bounce house. Our booth will feature Medieval hair wreaths and hair braiding. We need as many volunteers as we can get; just a few parents and I cannot comfortably manage this event. Please sign up and show your support for our class and school!

We will have a test this Friday on our history unit, The Age of Exploration. Please take the time to study thoroughly using the materials we provide this week.
In other news, we’ve had a number of students out sick with cold and flu-like symptoms. Please remind your student to practice good hygiene such as covering their mouths when coughing, using tissues to blow their nose, washing their hands, and of course not sharing food or drinks at lunch. If students are sick, please keep them home so as not to increase the likelihood of others becoming ill. If you’d like missing work available to be picked up at the end of the day, please email me early in the day so that I’ll have time to prepare it.
